A City-Dweller’s Guide through Nature
300-500x150x30 cm (varying sizes) / Ceramics, Aluminum Pipes / 2022
In order to help the common household city-dweller get in contact with the wonders of nature,
a series of railings have been installed at key sites of the area.
While strolling through the diverse landscape,
visitors are invited to take hold of the railings and their haptic naturalistic surfaces
and enjoy an assisted experience of the immediate nature around them.
A pseudo-anthroposophical practice is implemented with these works.
The railings consist of long horizontal ceramic pillars each with varying forms and structures that are meant to simulate natural surfaces.
They are alienated from their surroundings through their un-natural appearance.
Through this, an active focus is placed on them, as well as on the incentive to hold on and take notice of nature.
In its essence, the work is not about the railings, but about everything else.
They simply act as a means to create a platform through which awareness for nature is stimulated.
For this awareness to be activated, such irritating “stand-out” factors are required to initiate the process.
Let the works take you by the hand and guide you through your own personal nature experience!
